HELP! SOLAR ENGINES!?

ok, so for this powerpoint project for Honors Matter and energy, we were asked to choose an environment friendly power source and research it. Does anyone know where I can find information on how Solar Powered engines actually work, and a few names of

A short history of the impact of climate change to the automotive industry

Century. With this recent popularity, brief concern was given to the pollution produced by gas powered engines. Todays’ global warming statistics show that automobiles are the largest contributors to the global warming phenomena.

  First Emission Controls

Up to the 1960’s there were almost no emissions controls enforced on cars. The first step in controlling emissions was the popularization of the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) system which rerouted unburned fumes created in the crankcase back into the intake system so all the hydrocarbons were burned off. By 1961, all automobiles in America had a PCV systems installed as a matter of law.

The 2nd most prevalent addition in an effort to reduce car emissions was the catalytic converter that also required the use of unleaded gas in order to help abate the amount of emissions into the environment. By mid seventies, unleaded gas and catalytic converters were standard on all cars bought in America. Even though these two creations helped reduce car emissions, they considerably reduced the car’s performance and raised fuel use. Global warming was not a main subject yet.

Changing the Role of the Automobile

Of course the automobile’s role has always been to transport people and goods but in certain parts of the United States and including the world, the car has become a must in order to survive. Cities are becoming bigger and bigger and people must whirl further only to get to work. Trucking has become the standard of carrying stocks instead of railroads in most situations. Individuals rely on their automobiles as a way to get to work, visit friends and family and of course, take road trip vacations. Global warming is the front line field of study when it comes to saving the Earth, so changing how vehicles impact the environment is a major concern...
